WotLK Imminent

Just thought I'd document an update before Wrath of the Lich King goes live.

The dual boxing turned out to be a major success for my characters on Malygos.

It only took about 4 weeks, with a weekend break in there, to get Znakharka and Nevynoch to 60.

I then used the bonus levels to get Dubh to 55, and leveled her to 60 as well.

Here are things as they stand now:
  • Fidgette, 55
  • Znakharka and Dubh, 62
  • Nevynoch, 63
  • Chivers, 66
  • Pathak, Colerejuste, Bojsen and Grizzlyadam, 70
When WotLK goes live, and I upgrade my account, Hinny, my level 8 bank alt, will be getting deleted, and reincarnated as Hinny the female human deathknight.

I did have Lapetitemort picked out for the deathknight character, but I'd kept Hinny for so long, it was a shame to give her away. Maybe I'll create a Lapetitemort or something similar on Barthilas.

In other news, I ordered a Belkin n52te gaming device quite some time ago. It was actually preorder from sometime in June. They released them late, in August. I missed out on the first stock run because the place I ordered from didnt actually put a pre-order in with their suppliers. So I ordered from another place that had them in stock, and I missed out there as well. I've been waiting ever since.

Something I did kid around with in September is that I'd be playing WotLK before the device arrived. Looks like thats actually going to happen. /sigh

Dual Boxing Fool

With the recent announcement of WotLK being released in Australia on 14/11/2008, I decided to step up my leveling progression by taking advantage of the Recruit-A-Friend Zhevra offer and do a little dual boxing.

So I delete my Shaman(lvl16) and Warrior(lvl13) on Barthilas and started again in the dual boxing format.

Just to let you know how quick dual boxing is, I got the extra WoW licenses on Monday afternoon (22/09/2008), purchased a license for Keyclone that night, and spent the rest of the evening fiddling around with macros and the Keyclone maximizer.  On Tuesday night, I started questing, and then tried one last change in the maximizer format (PiP) before shutdown.  Last night (Wednesday), I hit lvl16 with the Shaman and 15 with the Warrior.  The Shaman have a few more class quests at that early stage, so she has jumped ahead of the warrior somewhat, though the warrior catches up a little since he tends to get more XP per kill at the lower level.

But now I've had a change of heart, yet again.  I've decided to switch back to Malygos for a bit, and do some dual boxing with my Hunter(lvl26) and Shaman(lvl24).  The PvP experience certainly has been fun, but I'm just not sure how its going to work out with dual boxing.  I figure than making the most out of my 90 days of triple xp is the best bet, and than effort would be better spent doing it in a PvE realm.

So the plan is to get my Hunter and Shaman to lvl59, then gift the earned levels to my Druid (currently at lvl38). At worst, this will mean a gift of 16 levels and will get the druid to 54.

Once at that stage, I'll go back to Barthilas and play out the remainder of the 90 days triple XP with the Shaman/Warrior couple.

In other news, Misnomer is now at lvl61 and has about 3 group quests remaining in HFP, is about 250rep short of honored with Thrallmar and has honored with CE.  Misnomer will be resting heavily while the dual boxing is going on.  Its been a fun ride on the PvP realm, but I think that has alot to do with being a rogue as well, since I can just hide at any time things are looking rough.

Horde Progress

Its been nearly two months since the last post, so I thought I'd add a bit of an update of how things are progressing on Barthilas.

Misnomer, my rogue main, is now lvl53. She's got 30 WSG and 30AB tokens, in preparation for a PvP epic mount, and has saved about 350g, through sales of Iron and Mithril ore, and other bits and pieces that have happened her way. She's currently Subtlety spec: a change that was made for all the PvP done at lvl49. I'm undecided on how long that will stay. I'll have to look a little more, since I'm missing Blade Flurry a bit (dmg to a neighbouring mob).

Next events for Misnomer are
  • lvl55, which will mean I can create a Deathknight on a PvP realm, when WotLK is released.
  • lvl57, which will be when I'll start doing Alterac Valley, its quests and dailies for AV tokens and rep.
  • lvl59, which will be when I only do AVs until I get all 30 AV tokens, and raise the cash for the epic land mount. This will also be when I enter Outland.
  • lvl65, which is when I'll make a concerted effort in leveling Lock Picking again, so I can open Khorium Lockboxes.
  • lvl70, which is when I'll be doing SSO dailies for cash for my other toons.

I'm in a go between place with leveling Engineering at the moment. I've only just hit 275 mining, and Engineering requires alot of Dense Stone at this point, however, all my questing is in places where Thorium is not that commonplace... so the nice side effect is all the excess Iron and Mithril is going straight on the AH, and making a tidy sum. I'm fairly confident I'll be able to earn the 510g I'll need for Journeyman riding (assuming Revered). If I can get to exhalted with Ogrimmar, even better, since then it should only cost 485g for training.

My next 4 toons to be taken through will be
  • Araas - Hunter(BM), Herb/Alchemist - lvl23
  • Bunnyboiler - Priest(Shadow), Tailor/Herb - lvl20
  • Dubh - Druid (Feral), JC/Ench - lvl23
  • Znak - Shaman(Enhance), Skinner/LW - lvl1?

Still very undecided on what order they will go in. Druid, Hunter and Shaman have proven to be quite fun. The herbalism will prove to be a good money maker, though I'd like to level Araas first so I can do something useful with those herbs, initially. And I'd also like to level Bunny so I've got a high level tailor that can do something useful with the cloth I'm collecting in Outland.

I'm thinking that end game for Bunny will result in going Discipline, since I already have a shadow priest on Malygos. It also seems to be where its at for Arena, and would make a good healer for instances.

My other clothies, Metacarpal and Malamor, will get leveled as their tailoring training requires it. Since I already have a high level warrior and paladin on Malygos, I'm not too fussed on leveling them again on Barthilas, just yet. However, when I do, Thotar will be Fury, and Tefal will be Prot.

For the Horde

Interesting change of plans. One of my good friends has switch to Barthilas, a PvP server, as Horde. So for a while, I've gone to join him in the quest for .. well, to find out what PvP is like.

At the moment, my main is a rogue called Misnomer. She is now at lvl16. She's taken up Engineering for two reasons. The first is for the Eng gloves she can craft at lvl70. The second is for the bombs that she can use to stun her enemies, and make a quick get away, if the going looks too tough.

The primary alt will be Bunnyboiler, and will be used for her Tailoring ability, and something to do with all the excess cloth that comes from Misnomer.

At the base of this post is alt roster for the realm.

I've decided to make most toons gatherers where possible, so that they mostly have some sort of income, or can provice mats to the other toons. My one exception is Dubh, my druid, who will make the most of BoP items and the various roles she may serve, by taking up jewel crafting and enchanting. Getting the big +sta and +heal gems, and being able to enchant rings is a big plus.

However, enchanting seems to be quite expensive. I got Dubh up to lvl7 on the weekend, picked up enchanting, in the hope of leveling it quickly, and being able to construct a wand for Bunnyboiler. Two things stood in my way.. construction of the copper rod required for enchanting, and the price of early enchanting materials, just to be able to level enchanting to the point where I can make the copper rod. Looks like it will be the appropriate excuse needed to level the warrior to a point where he can make the copper rod.

Rogue - Troll - Female - Miner - Engineer - Misnomer
Priest - Undead - Female - Tailor - Herb - Bunnyboiler
Warlock - Undead - Male - Tailor - Herb - Metacarpal
Mage - Belf - Female - Tailor - Herb - Malamor
Druid - Tauren - Female - JC - Enchanter - Dubh
Hunter - Troll - Male - Herb - Alchemist - Araas
Shaman - Orc - Female - Skinner - LW - Znak
Warrior - Orc - Male - Miner - Blacksmith - Thotar
Paladin - Belf - Male - Miner - Skinner - Tefal
Deathknight - Tauren - Male - Inscription - Herb - ??

Gatherer Breakdown
Herber - 4 - Bunnyboiler, Metacarpal, Malamor, Araas (and the deathknight, if I get that far)
Miner - 3 - Misnomer, Thotar, Tefal
Skinner - 2 - Znak, Tefal

Crafting Breakdown
Goblin Engineer - Misnomer
Primal Mooncloth - Bunnyboiler
Shadowcloth - Metacarpal
Spellcloth - Malamor
Jewelcrafter - Dubh
Enchanter - Dubh
Elixir Mastery - Araas
Leatherworker (undecided) - Znak
Blacksmith (Axes) - Thotar
Inscription - the deathknight

I may drop Herbing on one of the tailors later on, and take up Transmutes, but I'll need to have two fully leveled herbers first.

Now the only thing that remains is.. will I actually end up leveling all these toons? Probably not. Getting to 4 70s, 1 60, and the remaining 4 toons at 49, 38, 25 and 23 was two years in the making. Mind you, there was alot of time wasted with things like the Timbermaw Hold grind, and messing around in battlegrounds. First goal will be to get a toon to lvl70, and get some cash flowing in.

An Update

Well, its been quite a while since I've posted anything here.. so here's a little update with whats been going on...

WotLK: Its coming up, so now my focus is to have as many alts at 60 or 70, and to reduce my need for Hinny, my bank alt, so I can start a Death Knight, and fool around with that for a bit.

* Pathak (Prot Warrior): He doesnt do much these days. I pull him out for herbing, the occasional smithing craftable and fishing for Golden Darter and Motes of Water. He'll probably go back to Arms or Fury for leveling WotLK, given that the guild has a few tank stars such as Dawnshammer and Morrum.

* Colerejuste (Holy Pally): Col has been having a great old time with his raiding. He's exalted with Violet Eye, has seen the inside of SSC and has even run the first 3 bosses in ZA. As leveling winds up and raiding winds down, Col is mostly around for healing Heroics, as guildies farm for badges and heroic gear. About the only thing left for him to do is get exalted with SSO, to open the range of epic gem cuts. He'll probably go back to a Ret build for leveling in WotLK.

* Bojsen (Aff Lock): Boj occasionally joins in instances, though his spell hit is a bit crap, and he's only gets about 450dps on trash. On a boss fight, he can ramp up to 500dps, but with the other dps classes in the group, most boss fights dont go much beyond a minute or two. Boj spends his time making mana oil for Col, and DEing anything that doesnt sell on the AH.

* Grizzlyadam (Shadow Priest): GA is now a Transmute Master, but spends most of his time doing Earth -> Life/Water for Primal Mooncloth production, and Primal Mooncloth bags (20 slot). I occasionally pull him out for DPS, when Col is not required. I think he'll be staying as Shadow for the forseeable future, even though he's Primal Mooncloth spec'd. The introduction of Spellpower in WotLK will be interesting, and should mean it will be a viable combination.

* Chivers (Frost Mage): Chivers will be the next one through to 70. He just hit lvl58 last night, and did a few entry quests in HFP for some quick gear upgrades to staff, hat and robe. He'll be heading back to Azeroth until lvl 60 or lvl61. He'll become an Elixir Master, when the time comes, and get into Spellcloth production, though I'm not sure I'll bother making his set, given that gear upgrades will come soon enough in WotLK.

* Fidgette (Combat Rogue): Fidg is one for the books. Quite a few times, I've started a rogue, and have never enjoyed it.. but thats because I was going Assassin and was sneaking around everywhere, slowly. As a combat rogue, I'm free to stack Agi and Str, and just run up to things and hack the crap out of them. I'll usually only do the sneaky thing if they're a couple of levels ahead, and I need to lower their HP somewhat before they start hitting me. Fidg is at lvl44 at the moment, and I've yet to finish STV, and make a start on Tanaris. Fidg is a miner and engineer. I'll be looking forward to farming Motes with her engineer gadget.

* Dubh (Feral Druid): Its about time I leveled another LW. Skinning and LW is was Pathak did until just before TBC, when he dropped both for mining and smithing. Dubh is at lvl34, and will be leveled when Chivers and Fidg are low or out of rest bonus. Not sure what type of LW she'll be taking on.

* Znakharka (Enh Shaman): Currently at lvl24, Znak will be leveled when rest bonus is too low on the other higher level toons. Currently, she is a skinner and alchemist, though I'm considering dropping alchemy in favour of herbalism, to ease the burden on Pathak being the only herby in the group.

* Nevynoch (BM Hunter): Currently lvl23, skinner and LW, and my least favourite toon, even though he was my first. He'll come through when I'm good and ready. His shining qualities are his pets, Snaatch (a pussy cat, no less) and Cheeks (a cuddly wuddly bear). I do want to put effort into training the pets, so I guess the 3 pet slot will stay free for training to pets to learn new abilities.

* Hinny (Bank alt and druid): Shedding a tear for Hinny, when the time comes. Blizzard have stated that they'll not be adding any additional slots for hero classes, specifically the Death Knight. I'll be wanting to have a Death Knight at some stage, and at that time, Hinny will be getting the chop. Its quite a shame, since I've put a bit of gold into BoE bags and bank slots so she can hold all my crap. I guess thats the motivation for getting the alts to 70, so that I dont need a central bank toon to look after that spare loot that I may or may not use.

On the subject of Death Knights, when I get one, I think it will be a female human death night. Human, because of the 10% rep bonus, and female, because I've already got two human males (Chivers and GA). Thoughts for names will be something translating to Death Bringer, or something using Cael as a basis, yet be feminine (Caelywne, Caelia, Lacael, Caellina).

I guess no room for Dwarves in my troupe. I used to have alts called Mosesjones (pally) and Roquette (rogue), but decided that Col made a better pally, and Fidgette was enough for rogue action.

Anyway, thats about it until the next update, probably when WotLK comes out.
